The Story Behind Bee on a Hike
We had spent years building apps and platforms — practical software that solved real problems. But there was one corner of the craft we had never touched: games. Bee on a Hike was us finally stepping into it.
It was our first survival game, and we built it in Godot with GDScript as a way to learn a whole new discipline. Game loops, collision, waves, difficulty curves, feel — none of it works the way product software does, and that was exactly the point.
The concept was simple on purpose: you are a bee on a hike through a difficult path. Waves of obstacles come at you, and each wave hits harder than the last. Survive long enough and the Bee earns new abilities — like shooting its stinger — so the fight back is as satisfying as the dodge.
Bee on a Hike is archived now, but it did its job. It taught us how games are made, and it proved to ourselves that we could build in a medium we had only ever played in. Every little hike has to start somewhere — this was ours.
